PassiNV FAQ: Your Questions About Passive Façade Ventilation Answered

PassiNV is PassiHVAC's single-sided passive ventilator, designed for direct integration into any wall or façade. Here are the key questions answered.

What is PassiNV?

PassiNV is a single-sided passive ventilation unit that both supplies fresh air into a building and exhausts stale air out of it. Unlike PassiHEAT, it does not include a heat exchanger — making it a simpler, higher-airflow solution for applications where heat recovery is not required.

How is PassiNV different from PassiHEAT?

PassiNV has no heat exchanger, so airflow rates are higher but incoming air is not pre-warmed. Choose PassiNV when maximum ventilation capacity is the priority. Choose PassiHEAT when energy efficiency, reduced heating bills, and winter thermal comfort matter most.

Does PassiNV use electricity?

No. PassiNV is fully passive — no fans, motors, or controls. Running costs are zero. Airflow is driven entirely by wind pressure and thermal buoyancy, with no maintenance requirements associated with mechanical wear.

What surfaces and building types is PassiNV compatible with?

PassiNV integrates into any external wall or façade surface: brick masonry, concrete, rendered blockwork, and timber-frame construction. It is suitable for residential new-build, retrofit, education, commercial premises, and heritage buildings where maintaining the façade appearance is important.

Does PassiNV support UK Building Regulations compliance?

Yes. PassiNV supports ventilation strategies aligned with Approved Document Part F. PassiHVAC provides performance modelling to assess airflow rates, ventilation effectiveness, and pollutant dilution for specific projects and planning submissions.

Can PassiNV help with damp, mould, and Awaab's Law compliance?

Yes. Inadequate ventilation is a leading cause of damp and mould in UK homes. PassiNV provides continuous, passive air exchange that removes excess moisture without relying on occupant behaviour — no windows to open, no vents to adjust. This is particularly valuable in social housing where Awaab's Law now places explicit legal responsibility on landlords for damp and mould hazards.

How do I specify or procure PassiNV?

Contact PassiHVAC via passihvac.com/contact to discuss your project. We provide specification support, performance modelling, and integration advice for architects, developers, contractors, and housing associations.
